Let's Celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Annexation of the Partido de Nicoya to Costa Rica!

Every July 25th, this historic event is celebrated throughout the country, in recognition of Costa Rica's acknowledgment of the towns of the former Partido de Nicoya for their incorporation into the Costa Rican State in 1824.

Marbella School invites the entire community and neighboring areas to join our grand celebration this July 25th. Come and enjoy a day full of cultural, educational, and recreational activities for the whole family.

Featured Activities:

  • Opening and Civic Ceremony: We begin with an official ceremony and cultural performances.
  • Folk Dance Presentation: Enjoy traditional dances performed by the local group Proyección Folclórica Renacer de Marbella.
  • Recitation of Bombas, Rhymes, and Guanacastecan Shout: Awards for the best bomba and Guanacastecan shout.
  • Games and Recreational Activities: Fun for all ages with traditional games and activities such as ribbon races with hobbyhorses, sack races, egg-and-spoon races, musical chairs, hopscotch, and jump rope.
  • Parade and Election of the Corn Queen and King: Parade in corn costumes representing the culture, history, and role of corn for our ancestors.
  • Sales of Typical Food and Drinks: Typical dishes such as corn rice, tamales, rice pudding, buñuelos, and drinks like horchata and barley.
  • Live Music Concert: End the day with a marimba concert featuring Guanacastecan music.

 

How to Participate:

  • Free Entry: Admission is free for everyone.
  • Voluntary Contributions: Donations to support school activities are appreciated. You can also help by purchasing food items sold at the event.
  • Sales Prices:

Corn rice: 2,000₡ for half, 3,000₡ for a full portion.

Tamales: 1,500₡ per piña.

Buñuelos: 1,000₡ per bag of 5 buñuelos with syrup.

Rice pudding: 500₡ per cup.

Horchata and barley drinks: 500₡ per bag.
